About Lori J. Brown

Lori Brown has been affiliated with aerospace, since the 1980's. Passionate about diversity in STEM areas of education. She is a Associate Professor and Researcher at Western Michigan University, College of Aviation. Her dedication and passion for undergraduate education earned her the WMU EUP Innovative Teaching Award (2018), the WMU Nominated Michigan Distinguished Professor of the Year (2018), and numerous research grant awards. Her transformational research includes the use of augmented reality in technical driven training and she is currently a researcher for the FAA PEGASAS Center of Excellence dedicated to helping the FAA revolutionize technical training practices and Free Aviation Weather Courses. https://fly8ma.com/courses/weatherxplore-course/
Through Brown's Microsoft HoloLens work, WMU has become the first aviation program in the nation to use augmented reality in the classroom. She previously taught in the International Pilot Training Center on the B737 Jet Orientation and Mufti Crew courses for Delta, British Airways, KLM, UAE, Ab-initio sponsored cadets.
She serves as a Faculty Military Evaluator for America's Council on Education (ACE) for military aviation programs- Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, Air Force,Army, and is the former Chair for the ICAO Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) outreach group, and an recruitment and outreach workstream member for the International Pilot Training Association (IPTA), She is an Airline Transport Pilot, a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and is a Aviation Human Factors Specialist.
Her work is featured world wide in China, ICAO NGAP Symposium, Montreal, The World Aviation Training Conference (WATS), The Probabilistic Safety Assessment & Management conference, Hawaii, and the European Aviation Psychology Symposium (EAAP) conference in Valletta, Malta, and the Society for Biorhythms and Light Therapy, Vienna, Austria- Also featured in several industry publications and academic journals.
She is currently an Investigator for Weather Technologies in the Cockpit research a Partnership to Enhance General Aviation Safety, Accessibility and Sustainability (PEGASAS) - a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Center of Excellence for General Aviation. To enhance general aviation safety, accessibility, and sustainability by partnering the FAA with a national network of world-class researchers, educators and industry leaders.Her teaching assignments have centered on Advanced Aircraft Systems, Airline Flight Operations, Airframe Systems, Aircraft Powerplants and Aviation Meteorology.
