About Lori F. Gray

Dr. Lori Gray is an Associate Professor with the Department of Music and the Director of Music Education at Boise State University. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Music Education and supervises student teachers. Lori recently joined the Boise State Music faculty in the Fall of 2017, after her position as Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Montana. Prior to her experience in higher education, Lori taught in public and private PreK-12 schools in Texas, primarily as a general music specialist. Dr. Gray holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education from Arizona State University, a Master of Arts in Teaching in Music Education, a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Trinity University.

Dr. Gray is currently the chair of the Music Teacher Education Special Research Interest Group for the Society for Research in Music Education (a branch of the National Association for Music Education). She also serves on the Society for Music Teacher Education (a branch of NAfME) board. In addition, Lori enjoys working with colleagues on the national Mountain Lake Colloquium planning committee as well as serving at the state and local levels.

Dr. Lori Gray’s research interests include music teacher identity, teacher reflection, professional development for teachers, mentoring for teachers, and the preparation of future music teachers. She is an active clinician and has presented research and teaching at state, national, and international events in Arizona, Austria, Brazil, California, Georgia, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Virginia.
