About Lisa McLean

Dr. Lisa McLean is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Thanatology at King's University College. Dr. McLean's research focuses on the themes of migration, disappearance, ambiguous loss, vulnerability, and 'grief activism.' Her most recent project was a multi-sited ethnography of the transnational activism of Central American mothers of disappeared migrants. This project traces the women’s trajectory from the disappearance of their loved ones in transit, to the women's participation in local self-help collectives, and finally, to their efforts to build transnational solidarity with the relatives of disappeared persons in Mexico, Europe, and Northern Africa. Dr. McLean's current research and teaching is concerned with the social justice dimensions of loss and grief in the Canadian context.
