About Laurie Trautman

Dr. Laurie Trautman serves as the Director of the Border Policy Research Institute at Western Washington University, which is the only academically based research institute in the United States solely dedicated to studying Canada – U.S. border policy issues. Her work spans a range of cross-border research topics, particularly in the Cascadia region, including trade, transportation, human mobility, and security. In addition to working with faculty and students, she collaborates with the private sector and government agencies to advance policy solutions that improve border efficiencies and strengthen cross-border collaboration. Dr. Trautman's role involves outreach with a wide range of stakeholders and she participates in a number of working groups that operate at different scales, including the Pacific Northwest Economic Region, the International Mobility and Trade Corridor Program, the Canada - U.S. Transportation Border Working Group, and the Cascadia Innovation Corridor.
