About Kristin L. Anderson

Kristin Anderson is a professor in the Department of Sociology. She earned her B.A. in Sociology and English at the University of Northern Iowa in 1990 and completed her Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin in 1997. She taught at Drew University in New Jersey prior to coming to Western in 2001.

Professor Anderson’s research examines gender differences in the experiences, interpretations, and consequences of partner violence. Her interest in violence within families was enhanced by her work as a foster care social worker during a break from graduate school in 1992-93. She is a member of the Board of Directors at Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services of Whatcom County and served on the Domestic Violence Risk Assessment Team of the Bellingham-Whatcom County Commission Against Domestic Violence in 2012-2013. She has a sideline interest in alternative sports, and enjoys exploring the Northwest via kayak, ski, and foot.
