About Kelly Anne Concannon

Kelly Anne Concannon, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of writing in the Department of Communication, Media, and the Arts in the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences (HCAS). Currently, she teaches a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses including basic writing, college writing, advanced composition, gendered images in popular culture, and history and theory of rhetoric. She is an active faculty member of the honor’s college, having taught several reading seminar courses and honors writing courses, and teaches UNIV courses centered around ethics and embodiment. Dr. Concannon has served as an advisor for S.W.E.R (Students Working for Equal Rights) as well as the Gay Straight Alliance.

Dr. Concannon's research interests include community engagement, service learning, feminist theory, social justice education, and literacy studies. Her book, Peace and Social Justice Education, was published in the winter of 2015. She has published book chapters in Teaching Peace through Popular Culture, The School Violence Reference Handbook, and A History of Evil in Popular Culture. Further, she has published in major journals including Reflections: A Journal of Public Rhetoric, Civic Writing, and Service LearningThe Journal of Feminist ScholarshipAcademic Exchange QuarterlyEnculturation, Community LiteracyJournal for Expanded Perspectives on LearningCollege Literature, and The Journal of Advanced Composition. She has presented at national and regional conferences, and participates in local community organizations including: the South Florida Diversity Alliance and the Women of Tomorrow Program, in Broward County. She also serves as an undergraduate mentor for the Undergraduate Journal of Service Learning and Community-Based Research.
