About Kathleen Sheppard

Dr. Kathleen Sheppard is an Associate Professor of History in the department of History and Political Science at Missouri University of Science and Technology. She was named Missouri S&T's first Christensen Fellow of History and Political Science in 2021.

Dr. Sheppard is a historian of science focusing on the history of British archaeology and women in science.  She received a B.A. in anthropology and sociology from Truman State University, an M.A. in Egyptian archeology from University College, London, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in the history of science from the University of Oklahoma.  Her current research is centered on Margaret Alice Murray and the various roles she filled in the Egyptology department at University College, London from shortly after its founding in1892 through the 1950s.  Although her research is situated in early twentieth century Britain, she is also interested in the popularization of science in America, the history and significance of World’s Fairs, and the Space Race.

Dr. Sheppard is involved with the Society for Women Engineers at S&T.  She teaches the History of Science survey and Western Civilizations.  Kathleen is also on the executive committee of the Histories of Archaeology Research Network.
