About Kathleen Lovanio

Kathleen Lovanio, DNP, APRN-BC, RN-BC, a board certified Adult/Family nurse practitioner and gerontological nurse is an expert in the care of older adults.  She earned a post-masters certificate from Penn State University in 2011 as a Geriatric Nurse Educator.  Her education and nursing experience is firmly rooted in evidence-based practice and her research and interests seek to optimize the quality of life of community-dwelling older adults.  As part of her commitment to the field of Geriatrics, Dr. Lovanio advanced the number of ANCC certified Gerontological nurses at two major hospitals by developing curriculum and conducting geriatric review sessions for staff RNs.  She was the project director of “A Matter of Balance” (MOB), an evidence-based fall risk reduction program designed to reduce the fear of falling and to promote maximum independence and improve quality of life among community-dwelling older adults. In addition, Dr. Lovanio’s many publications and presentations in this field, illustrates her commitment and interest in the care of older adults.  
 
Dr. Lovanio is the SON Project Director for the Veteran Administration Academic Nursing Partnership (VANAP) with VA Connecticut Healthcare System (VACHS).  The partnership seeks to promote personal and professional growth of VANAP faculty members; to develop and implement nursing curriculum in Veteran-centric concepts; and to develop, implement, and evaluate research and practice initiatives.
