About Kambiz Norozi

Dr. Kambiz Norozi is a pediatric cardiologist at the Children's Hospital (LHSC) specializing in congenital heart defects and cardiovascular complications associated with obesity in children and adolescents.

Asset Map Keywords: Congenital Heart Defects, Obesity, and Risk Factors --> (see more)
Children's Health Collaborators: Cheril Clarson, Doug Fraser, and Jamie Seabrook

Through the cardiac care program at the Children's Hospital, Dr. Norozi studies risk factors of cardiovascular diseases in obese children and teens, as well as their transition into adult care. Another aspect of Dr. Norozi's work involves using frog models to better understand heart development.

Dr. Kambiz Norozi is originally from Persia, and moved to Germany as an adolescent. He completed his training in Germany, as a Paediatrician and Paediatric Cardiologist, and has an equivalent of a PhD from the Hannover Medical School (MHH), Germany. He is currently Professor, in the Department of Paediatrics at the Western University, Head of the Paediatric Cardiology Department at the London Health Sciences Centre, Scientist at Children Health Research Institute (CHRI) and Lawson Health Research Institute, the Western Clinician Investigator Program (CIP) and the CHRI operations committee.

In addition, he is cross-appointed as a Professor for Paediatric Cardiology at the Hannover Medical School (MHH) and the University of Göttingen, Germany, Professor for Cardiology at Western University, and Associate Professor for Paediatric Cardiology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

From June 2003 until January 2005, he was the Lead Coordinator of the Bi-center Clinical Research Project (MHH and the University of Göttingen, Germany), investigating adolescents and adults with congenital heart defects (ACHD). In 2008, he obtained his subspecialty Board, for ACHD patients from the German Cardiac Society.

From June 2003, and up until his move to Canada in October 2008, he worked as a Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist in the Children’s Hospital of MHH.

From February 2005, until October 2008, he was the Senior Research Fellow in the Cardiovascular Development Research Laboratory at MHH, and was responsible to establish a shell-less culture for chick embryos, to study heart development in this animal model. He is currently collaborating with the basic Scientists at CHRI, regarding imaging of heart function and development in Xenopus embryos.

Dr. Norozi’s other field of research interests is to assess and objectify the risk factors for cardiovascular disorders in obese children. Since his arrival in London, Dr. Norozi has obtained several local, provincial, national and international grants, to investigate cardio-vascular function in children and adolescents with obesity, and after cardiac surgery.

One of Dr. Norozi’s passions and goals is to make a smooth transition of Paediatric Cardiology patients into the “adult world”. For that reason, he is actively involved to establish a transition clinic in London, Ontario, for adolescents and young adults with congenital heart defects.

Dr. Norozi is the author of more than 60 published articles in peer-reviewed international well respected medical journals. He is a member of the Editorial Board of World Journal of Cardiology, the Journal of BioMed Research International, and the Journal of Advances in Medicine. Furthermore, he is a scientific reviewer of several international well recognized journals such as; Circulation, the American Journal of Cardiology, and the European Heart Journal and Congenital Heart Disease.

Research Overview
My major field of research is to assess and objectify the risk factors of cardiovascular disorders in obese children. Since my arrival in London, I have obtained several local and provincial grants, to investigate cardio-vascular function in overweight and obese children and adolescents with congenital heart defects.

My other field of research is to understand the heart development by imaging of heart function in Xenopus embryos.
