Julie Alemany is an Associate Professor at the Fischler College of Education (FCE), where she teaches graduate courses in Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Exceptional Student Education (ESE) both nationally and internationally. Before joining the faculty at Nova Southeastern University (NSU), Professor Alemany taught in both public and private schools for 20 years. Her private and public school teaching experiences provided many opportunities for teacher leadership including Reading Coach, Professional Development Chair, Clinical Education Trainer, School Advisory Council Chair, Instructional Innovation Team Leader, Coordinator of the English for Speaker of Other Languages (ESOL) program, and Grant Writer. Professor Alemany has continuously maintained her status as a National Board Certified teacher in English as a New Language from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards since 2000, and Teacher Certification in the State of Florida since 1988. Professor Alemany graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a B.S. degree in Physical Education for the Handicapped, obtained Masters of Education degrees from Florida Atlantic University in Special Education and Multicultural Education, and earned her doctorate degree at NSU in Educational Leadership. She is a member of TESOL International and serves as a member of the Council for the Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP) committee for accreditation of the TESOL program at FCE.
