About Joseph Pileri

Joseph Pileri is a Practitioner in Residence in the Community and Economic Development Law Clinic, through which students provide transactional representation to nonprofit organizations, small businesses, and entrepreneurs in D.C. and the metro area. Prior to coming to WCL, Joseph taught in the Social Enterprise and Nonprofit Law Clinic at Georgetown University Law Center. Joseph’s areas of expertise and scholarly interests include corporate law, professional responsibility, community economic development law, and the intersection between business law, human and civil rights, and legal ethics.

Joseph began his legal career in the corporate department of a large Los Angeles law firm, where he represented businesses in complex transactional and corporate governance matters. Joseph previously practiced law at Bet Tzedek Legal Services in Los Angeles, where he coordinated the provision of legal services and advocated on behalf of clients on a broad range of legal issues affecting the city’s low-income communities. Joseph also supervised UCLA law students’ clinical work and provided in-class instruction to clinic students. Joseph received a J.D. from Harvard Law School and graduated cum laude with a B.A. in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles.
