About Joseph Kaempf, MD

I am currently the Medical Director of Continuous Quality Improvement and Clinical Research for Women and Children’s Services in the Providence Health System Oregon region.  My medical training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of Colorado afforded me exposure to prestigious clinical and basic scientists who instilled the importance of rigorous and relevant investigation related to improving bedside care.  I have been directly engaged with CQI with Kaiser Permanente, Northwest Newborn Specialists PC, and the Providence Health System for almost 30 years so I have enjoyed a broad exposure to the complexities and urgent importance of quality, safety, patient satisfaction, and value.  I have been a designer and leader of many clinical investigations and innovative CQI projects that have produced tangible, objective results. I have a an extensive and successful record of developing, conducting, and publishing complex randomized controlled trials, collaborative CQI studies, and innovative clinical care guidelines.

My work has included cutting-edge NICU and obstetric clinical research and innovative CQI related to composite morbidity scores, periviability pregnancy counseling, pulmonary care, placental transfusion therapy, and provider CQI education.  The NICU at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center has an international reputation of CQI excellence and I have shared our experience at many high-level conferences throughout North America as well as many publications in leading medical journals.  Rigorous CQI and clinical research done with a constant goal of the highest quality outcomes, safety, and value is the priority of my professional life and is 100% aligned with our W&CS mission.
