About John DeRosimo

John DeRosimo, M.D., is a thoracic surgeon at Miami Cancer Institute, a part of Baptist Health South Florida. He specializes in thoracic surgery. His interests include malignant and benign diseases of the lung and esophagus, as well as mesothelioma. He also specializes in minimally invasive surgery, including robotic surgery. Dr. DeRosimo attended Johns Hopkins University for his undergraduate degree and received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed residencies in general surgery at Albany Medical Center and cardiothoracic surgery at Case-Western Reserve University, as well as an advanced fellowship in thoracic surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital of Harvard Medical School. While serving as chief resident in surgery, he was awarded the Resident Golden Apple Teaching Award. Dr. DeRosimo started his practice in 2004 as assistant professor of surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. While there, he served as investigator in multiple clinical trials, including trials for advanced-stage lung cancer and for high-risk patients. He joined Baptist Health's Thoracic Surgery Group in 2011. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is Board-certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.
