About Jennifer Fisher

Jennifer Fisher, Ph.D., is an assistant teaching professor and coordinator of art education in the Department of Educator Preparation, Innovation, and Research in the College of Education. She is a joint faculty member in the Department of Art and Design within the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a teaching certificate in the state of Missouri, where she is certified to teach art K-12, gifted K-12, and English language arts 5-12. She received a B.S.Ed. in secondary education for art from Southeast Missouri State University in 2009. Dr. Fisher also earned a Master of Special Education (gifted and talented emphasis) from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2011, and Doctor of Philosophy in teaching and learning processes from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 2016. Dr. Fisher teaches undergraduate and graduate art education courses, and she directs programs leading to a B.F.A. with Missouri teaching certification in art. Dr. Fisher draws from her experiences as a primary and secondary school art teacher, gifted teacher, English teacher, and coach to engage her students in the application of theory to authentic learning experiences. At the graduate level, Dr. Fisher is involved in teaching art education courses for the M.Ed. in secondary education, as well as the Teach in 12 program. Additionally, she works with doctoral students seeking to conduct research in art and gifted education. Dr. Fisher is a member of Missouri Art Education Association (MAEA), National Art Education Association (NAEA), International Society for Education through Art (InSEA), and the Gifted Association of Missouri (GAM). She has conducted research and written on the topics of art education, gifted education, and high ability visual artists. She spends her summers teaching and learning at the Missouri Scholars Academy.
