About Jeffrey J. Gerwing

In addition to an ongoing focus on applying scientific monitoring and experimental approaches to improve the effectiveness of ecosystem restoration projects, Dr. Gerwing has recently shifted research emphasis to work in partnership with urban forestry departments and other managers of urban trees to improve our understanding of how to make urban forests more resilient to urban stressors and future climate change impacts.

Graduate students are currently working with Dr. Gerwing on projects related to:
- Evaluating the effectiveness of restoration thinning treatments on Oregon white oak stand structure
- Completing a quantitative assessment of soil erosion from trails in Forest Park, Portland
- Analyzing the ecosystem services impacts of urban tree replacements

Dr. Jeff Gerwing graduated with his MS in Botany in 1989 and his PhD in Ecology from Pennsylvania State University in 2001.
