About Jeff Bremer

I am a specialist in the early American republic, with an interest in the social and economic history of the American Midwest. In 2014 the University of Iowa Press published my book A Store Almost in Sight: The Economic Transformation of Missouri From the Louisiana Purchase to the Civil War. I am working on a narrative survey of the state, entitled A New History of Iowa. Iowa's most recent state history is more than 25 years old. A former history teacher in California, I help coordinate ISU’s history and social studies program. I teach U.S. history surveys, Iowa history, and the history of the early republic. I also teach the social studies methods course for ISU teacher candidates and supervise student teachers in Iowa and in Krosno, Poland (spring semesters.)
