About Jean DeMartinis

Dr. Jean DeMartinis, PhD, FNP-BC is Associate Professor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, School of Nursing. She is currently the Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and immediate past Director of the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) graduate programs. She was the Principle Investigator, Project Director of HRSA grant # D09HP07323, June 2006-2009, partially supporting the academic program of the DNP and start-up costs for a DNP Immersion Practice site where DNP students concentrated on research translation capstone projects including patients with activity or exercise intolerance causing fatigue and shortness of breath. She is a doctoral prepared family nurse practitioner, certified and current in practice that specializes in Cardiology and Secondary Prevention—Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET) and activity planning for safe and doable exercising. She and her HRSA grant team opened the practice program, the “Take Charge of Your Life(LifeChargeTM) Program” initiative at Holyoke Health Center/Chicopee Health Center located in Chicopee, MA. This facility and program was operational from 2008-2009 and served to assist the vulnerable population of Latinos in the region to access safe and doable preventative health services. She is an external evaluator for Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), the Massachusetts State Board of Higher Education (BHE), and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) for review of CNL and DNP programs in the Region. Dr. DeMartinis also serves as external reviewer for several other states’ education boards for proposed nursing programs. She has consulted with Schools of Nursing regarding DNP and CNL program and curriculum development. Publications have foci related to CNL and DNP programs, Cardiology, Stress Management and Relaxation, and Health Assessment.
