Balancing Risk and Reward: Managing Demand-Driven eBooks
NLA College and University Section and Technical Services Round Table (2020)

Abstract
In recent years Criss Library has offered the UNO community an extensive collection of eBooks through a demand-driven program. Records for these eBooks appear in the library catalog, but the library pays for access only when they are used. The demand-driven program enables the library to offer many more eBooks than it otherwise could; however, great care must be taken to manage costs. The addition of subscription-based eBooks helped reduce the load on the demand-driven eBooks. This presentation examines concerns related to overall costs and the impact of licenses on access. It also comments on the need to watch for compromised library accounts, which have been used by non-UNO affiliates to access eBooks.
