About Ivan Davis

In 1997, I joined the Andrews University Department of English, where I direct the writing program.  My professional home is writing studies, and the primary focus of my research to this point has been historical.
In 2002, I received my PhD in English from Ball State University. My dissertation examined the network of influences and collaborators who helped to shape the thinking of Fred Newton Scott.  Since that time, I continue to research Scott’s work, but I’m also beginning a new project focused on writing transfer and “writing-about-writing.”
While at Andrews, I have also edited Focus: The Andrews University Magazine, and coached the Andrews University Women’s Basketball Team.  My wife, Brynja Davis, teaches in the department of speech-language pathology and audiology, and we have three children, Bryndis, Leif and Axel.
I enjoy camping in the Upper Peninsula, watching the USMNT, traveling to Iceland (where my wife is from), keeping up with the Cubs and Celtics, and reading most anything related to Abraham Lincoln.
