About Islam H. El-adaway

Dr. Islam H. El-adaway joined Missouri S&T as the Hurst-McCarthy Endowed Professor of Construction Engineering and Management in August 2018 with primary appointment in the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering and a secondary courtesy appointment in the Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering. He received B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Construction Engineering from the American University in Cairo, and a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University. Dr. El-adaway was most recently Associate Professor and Construction Engineering and Management Program Coordinator at the University of Tennessee.
 
Internationally, Dr. El-adaway is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (F.ICE). Nationally, he is a Fellow of ASCE (F.ASCE), co-recipient of the ASCE's 2017 Best Paper Award, was selected 5 times as an ASCE Outstanding Reviewer, and was invited by the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) to attend its Frontiers of Engineering Education Symposium as being one of the most innovative engineering educators. Regionally, he is a recipient of a Young Faculty Research Award by ASEE. At the University level, he was selected to receive an Outstanding Teaching Recognition Award, Academy of Distinguished Teachers Award, a Young Faculty Research Award, the David Carlisle Hull Faculty Leadership Award, and the Chip Crane State Pride Award.
 
Dr. El-adaway's research focuses on focuses on sustainable infrastructure and hazard management, modeling and simulation for construction, decision and risk management, and contractual and legal affairs in construction. His work was funded by international, national, and regional entities. Dr. El-adaway's work resulted to date in 94 peer-reviewed publications (50 journal papers and 44 conference papers) that were published and/or presented in the top venues in the CEM area. He has mentored 5 PhD students and 5 M.Sc. students towards earning their respective degrees, and his current team include 5 PhD students and 1 Post-Doc Research Fellow.
 
Dr. El-adaway is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the United States and a registered Chartered Engineer (CEng.) in the United Kingdom. He is the Associate Editor for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Journal of Management in Engineering. He is also a member of the scientific and organizing committees for the multiple ASCE conferences including the Construction Research Congress. In addition to serving on the National Science Foundation (NSF) review panels, Dr. El-adaway is an active reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals in the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East. Further, Dr. El-adaway is a member of the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE).

Dr. El-adaway made the list of Engineering News Record (ENR) Midwest’s 2019 Top Young Professionals. The 20 individuals, all under age 40, are honored for “changing construction, design and academic research.”
