About Iana Shchetinskaia

Iana Shchetinskaia is a Ph.D. student in History at the State University of New York at Binghamton and the American
Studies Department at the Russian State University for the
Humanities. Her research focuses on
the institutional evolution and role of foreign policy expertise in the
United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War, as well as the U.S.-Soviet scientific exchange. She holds
a Master of International Studies degree from North Carolina State
University, where she studied on a Fulbright scholarship. Her
Master’s research analyzed the ways national economic,
demographic, and public opinion trends constrain Russia’s foreign
policy. Additionally, Iana worked as a Research Intern at the
Institute for the Analysis of Global Security in Washington, D.C.
More recently, she has been a Research Fellow at the International
Security working group at the Stanford U.S.-Russia Forum, where
she conducted research on the implications of the conventional arms
trade for U.S.-Russian relations alongside U.S. and Russian scholars and a Fellow at the Cold War Archives Research Institute (Wilson Center). Iana has taught courses on International Security, Public Policy, and International Organizations.
