About James M. Helfield

My research focuses on rivers and riparian forests. I am especially interested in processes affecting the habitat and ecology of Pacific salmon and trout, and the ways in which these processes respond to and recover from anthropogenic stress. A recurring theme in my work is the interconnectedness and interdependence of rivers and their surrounding watersheds, and the need for habitat restoration strategies to recognize these linkages.
