About George Faithful

George Faithful studied at Wake Forest University, the Université de Nantes, the Humboldt-Universtität zu Berlin, and Covenant Theological Seminary, before completing his Ph.D. in historical theology and certificate in clinical healthcare ethics at Saint Louis University. Based on his dissertation, his book Mothering the Fatherland (Oxford, 2014) analyzes the interrelationship of religious, national, and gender identities in the Ecumenical Sisterhood of Mary, whose concepts of collective German national guilt for the Holocaust drove their work in Jewish-Christian reconciliation but ironically demonstrated the influence of German nationalism. Faithful's teaching and research interests include mysticism, apocalypticism, the religious dimension
