About Frances H. Montgomery

Frances “Dee” Haemmerlie Montgomery earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and advanced degrees from Florida State University.  She was hired as an Assistant Professor in Psychology at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly the University of Missouri—Rolla) in 1978, becoming a Full Professor in 1991 and a Curator’s Teaching Professor in 1995.  She was the first female faculty member, and the only psychology faculty member at UMR/S&T to date, to earn a Curator’s title.

She previously served as a Research Fellow in the Center for Applied Engineering (1984-1987), Associate Dean in the UMR College of Arts and Sciences (2002-2007), Special Assistant to the Vice Provost (July-August 2007), and Interim Chair of Psychological Science (2007-7008).

Dr. Dee Haemmerlie Montgomery retired in May 2017, having served the university for 39 years. During her career at UMR/S&T, she taught over 230 courses to over 6200 students and published or presented over 150 professional papers.
