My research interests focus on the late Ottoman and post-Ottoman Balkans: trade; travel; nationalism; social history of medicine; gender and public health. I am working on a new book project with the provisional title, Nursing the Nation State: Public Health and International Exchanges in the Interwar Balkans. It explores the establishment of public health structures in Southeastern Europe, with a specific focus on the social history of nursing. By situating healthcare within both nation- and state- building processes, this research employs gender as framework for analysis.
