About Erik L. Johnson

Dr. Erik L. Johnson is a Lecturer in the Humanities Department at San José State University, where he has also taught in the Department of English and Comparative Literature. His research focuses on seventeenth- and eighteenth-century British and French literature, in particular prose fiction and drama. He earned his Ph.D. and M.A. in English from Stanford University and his B.A. in English and Renaissance Studies from Yale University. While earning his Ph.D., he conducted research in Paris, France, supported by year-long fellowships from the Mellon Foundation and the Georges Lurcy Charitable and Educational Trust. In between earning his B.A. and his graduate degrees, Dr. Johnson had a separate career in book publishing at W. W. Norton & Company in New York, where he edited and marketed non-fiction books for both general (trade) and professional audiences.
