About Elizabeth Pickard

ELIZABETH PICKARD is the Science and Social Sciences Librarian at Portland State University Library. Professor Pickard has been on the faculty since 2015 and serves as librarian for Departments of Anthropology, Environmental Science & Management, Geography, Geology, Sustainability, and Systems Science.

Professor Pickard holds a Master of Science in Information from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from the University of Chicago. Her current research uses ethnographic methods to compare the effectiveness of different modes of information literacy instruction (ILI) in asynchronous online courses and to address the absence of ILI in STEM curricula. Professor Pickard has received a Library Services and Technology Act grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services for her work with five Illinois universities on the Ethnographic Research in Illinois Academic Libraries project as well as a Portland State University Faculty Development Grant for her research on geography majors’ research practices.
