About David M. Mannino

Dr. David M. Mannino is the Medical Director and Co-Founder at the COPD Foundation.  He is also a Professor and former Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health and a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. He is the former Director of the Pulmonary Epidemiology Research Laboratory and the former Director of the Southeast Center for Agricultural Health and Injury Prevention. He was formerly the chief science officer of the Centers for Disease Control's Air Pollution and Respiratory Health Branch. While at CDC he was the lead author on key publications reporting on the epidemiology of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. He has over 350 publications in leading peer-reviewed journals on topics that range from the epidemiology of lung disease to health effects related to air pollutant exposure. He is an active member of and adviser to several professional organizations, including the COPD Foundation, the USCOPD Coalition, the National Lung Health Education Program, and the Alpha-1 Foundation. He is an Associate Editor of the Journals of the COPD Foundation and is on the editorial board of Thorax, Chest, AJRCCM, and the IJCOPD.
