About Danielle LaRose

I am a scholar of Ancient Roman History pursuing my Ph.D at Binghamton University. I hold an MA in History from Binghamton University and a BA in Social Sciences from Cazenovia College. My recent research has focused on Roman slavery as it intersects with education, status, and gender. Other research interests include ancient environmental history, the reception of Greek and Roman antiquity, and marginal groups in classical society. Specific projects have included the exploration of the influence of the classics on Thomas Jefferson, Carolingian reception of classical authors, Roman conceptions of race in Caesar’s Gallic Wars and various types of “elite” slaves in Ancient Rome, such as the slave tutors called paedagogi, the slaves of the imperial family, and wet nurses in elite households. I bring a museum background to my research, having investigated the archaeological collections at Fort Stanwix National Monument in Rome, NY and guided tours as a historical interpreter at Lorenzo State Historic Site in Cazenovia, NY.
