About Claire B. Andreasen

Dr. Claire Andreasen is a Professor and Director of One Health in the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine, and board certified as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP). She has worked with the ISU CVM Center for Food Security and Public Health (CFSPH), Kansas State Center of Excellence for Emerging and Zoonotic Animal Diseases (CEEZAD), and Texas A&M Institute for Infectious Animal Diseases (IIAD), formerly (FAZD), with funding from DHS and USDA in the areas of emerging and transboundary animal disease education, pathology, and secure food continuity during disease outbreaks. She received her DVM degree from Texas A&M in 1982, was a practicing veterinarian from 1982-1985, and then completed a pathology residency and PhD (1990) from the University of Georgia. Dr. Andreasen was a faculty member at Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine before coming to the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. She served in the Office of the Provost for faculty advancement and diversity 2005-2006 as an intern and assistant. She was a Department Chair for 10 years, prior to the Associate Dean for Student and Academic Affairs position 2010-2016. She has served as President of both ASVCP and ACVP. Her research areas include comparative cell function in infectious disease, and emerging and zoonotic disease education.  She has authored numerous publications, abstracts and book chapters. She received the Pfizer Award for Research Excellence in 1994, Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association Clinical Sciences Teaching Award in 2001, and University Foundation Award for Departmental Leadership in 2005.
