Assistant Professor, Psychology
Dr. Christine Valdez is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology in the Department of Psychology at CSUMB. She teaches several courses focused on the application of psychology in research, clinical, and community contexts, including PSY 302: Psychology Research Methods and Data Analysis, which is an advanced upper-division research methods course; PSY 320: Psychopathology, which focuses on the various mental health disorders; and Psychology Service Learning, which focuses on applying psychological principles and concepts during real world service learning experiences in the community.
Dr. Valdez is a licensed clinical psychologist with interests in psychological trauma and posttraumatic stress. Her clinical expertise are in treating interpersonal violence. She remains involved in clinical work, practicing part-time at Mind Therapy Clinic as the PTSD and Trauma Treatment Expert. Relatedly, her research interests focus on understanding cognitive and emotional processes that contribute to posttraumatic sequelae, and recovery from trauma. Dr. Valdez mentors student researchers in the Trauma Outcomes and Recovery (TOAR) Lab at CSUMB and is an an Affiliate of the University of California, San Francisco, conducting research with community individuals and clients at the UCSF/SFGH Trauma Recovery Center. She is also actively involved in the American Psychological Association, serving as the Early Career Psychologist Representative for Division 56 (Trauma Psychology).
