Anita Knight Kuhnley, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Counseling and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the Center for Counselor Education and Family Studies at Liberty University. Kuhnley earned her doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from Regent University, her M.A. in Community Counseling from Regent University, and a B.S. in Business Administration from Tennessee Tech University. Kuhnley is also a certified as a highly reliable coder of the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) through Mary Main and Eric Hesse’s UC Berkeley AAI coder certification program.

Kuhnley's dissertation topic was emotional intelligence and effective practices in teaching counseling skills. Kuhnley has worked in a variety of clinical and educational settings including but not limited to: inpatient substance abuse settings, college counseling centers, and private practice settings. Kuhnley was awarded the Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence, first place at Liberty University. Kuhnley is a graduate of Liberty University’s Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) first annual “Teaching with Technology Bootcamp.” Kuhnley enjoys participating in and contributing to CTE’s many excellent programs, is an early adopter of technology in the classroom, and enjoys mentoring other faculty in the use of technology and learning about new uses of technology and best practices.

Kuhnley is a blogger for the American Counseling Association, a contributing author to the Popular Encyclopedia of Christian Counseling, and an author and/or co-author of several peer reviewed articles, book chapters, and books. Some of these include: "Mastering Test Anxiety" a guide published by the American School Counseling Association. 

Kuhnley enjoys working with a research team of graduate students in the Center for Counselor Education and Family Studies, and is working with LU Send, Last Bell Ministries, and Center for Counselor Education and Family Studies graduate students to facilitate an outreach to Ukrainian orphan graduates and their care givers utilizing clinical skills. Kuhnley also enjoys collaborating with colleagues and students on research and writing projects and is currently working with the Center for Counselor Education and Family Studies Research Team and Dr. Gary Sibcy on longitudinal single case design project assessing the impact of CBASP treatment on AAI scale scores. Other areas of research interest for Kuhnley and her research team include: emotional intelligence/emotion regulation, attachment, neuroscience, effective practices in teaching counseling skills, and mindfulness.
