About Aleksandra Snowden

 Dr. Snowden is Associate Professor of Criminology and Law Studies and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Social and Cultural Sciences at Marquette University. She received her PhD in Criminal Justice in 2012 from Indiana University and her MBA in 2021 from Marquette University. Dr. Snowden’s main research interests include (1) the impact of social structure on violence, (2) the role of alcohol availability in violence, and (3) the characteristics of alcohol selling retailers that contribute to crime and violence. Her research is interdisciplinary in nature and has been published in leading journals in several disciplines, including criminology (Criminal Justice Review, Journal of Drug Issues, Journal of Crime and Justice, Journal of Interpersonal Violence, Social Science Research, Violence and Victims), geography (International Regional Science Review), and public health and epidemiology (American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, American Journal of Public Health, Contemporary Drug Problems, Journal of Ethnicity in Substance Abuse). She also contributed a chapter (with William Alex Pridemore) to an edited volume Preventing Alcohol-Related Problems: Evidence and Community-based Initiatives (edited by Norman Giesbrecht and Linda M. Bosma), published by the American Public Health Association Press.

Dr. Snowden teaches several classes in the Criminology and Law Studies program, including Introduction to Criminology, Neighborhoods and Crime, Crime Mapping, and Introduction to Geographic Information System (GIS).
