About Geoffrey Ramirez

Hello, my name is Geoffrey Ramirez and I am interested in uncovering threads and stories in communities that, though long forgotten or overlooked, retain important connections to people, places, and systems still in place today.

I trained as a Public Historian and now continue my studies here in Binghamton to better grasp the stories and theories relevant to modern historical discussions on women, minorities, and ongoing social experiences. By focusing on local narratives and actors, I hope to show that no matter how disconnected places or environments may seem, social and cultural through lines connect experiences, decisions, and events and have visible impacts on today’s world. No matter how small a story or community may seem, by understanding the niche they filled in a local environment, we can better understand the national environment they existed in.

I hope that my studies help empower communities who lost control over their own stories. However, swaying narratives must extend beyond books, and I ultimately wish to dive into creative means of sharing accessible academic-level history with a broader public. Thus, my interests include creating graphic histories, engaging historical podcasts or YouTube channels, relevant museum exhibits, and public art projects.
