Martin A. Kotler is an Emeritus Professor of Law at Delaware Law School. Professor Kotler received a B.A. from George Washington University in 1972, a J.D. from Hastings College of the Law in 1975, an LL.M. (1984) and J.S.D. (1989) from New York University School of Law.

Following graduation from law school and admission to the California Bar, Professor Kotler worked as an Associate Attorney with Popelka, Allard, McCowan & Jones, San Jose, California, from 1976-80; Partner, Kotler & Kotler, Walnut Creek, California, from 1980-83; Visiting Fellow, National University of Singapore, from 1985-87.

Professor Kotler joined the faculty at Delaware Law School in 1987 and served as a Visiting Associate Professor of Law from 1987-88; Associate Professor of Law from 1988-93 (Widener); and as a Professor of Law since 1993. He was a Visiting Professor of Law at Seton Hall in the Fall 1994 semester, at Santa Clara in 1996-97, at Cal Western in the Spring 2000 semester, and at Florida State during the Fall 2006.

Professor Kotler is admitted to practice in California and the United States Court of Appeal for the Third Circuit. He teaches and writes primarily in the areas of Torts, Insurance Law, Products Liability, and Remedies.

Professor Kotler has been active in a number of professional and civic organizations, including the American Law Institute to which he was elected in 1993. In the ALI, he served on the members’ consultative committees for the drafting of the Third Restatements of Torts (Products Liability, Apportionment, and Liability for Physical and Emotional Harm), and the ALI’s Principles of Liability Insurance project. He is a member of the Board of Trustees for TALK, Inc., a Pennsylvania non-profit corporation that operates the Talk Institute, a licensed private academic school for children with autism and other communication disorders in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.
