Professor Becker's scholarly interests focus on family law and on the
intersection of family law and ethics. He is a contributing author to various books,
including Alimony, Child Support and Counsel Fees-Award, Modification & Enforcement
(1988); and Valuation and Distribution of Marital Property (1990, 1991 & 1994 eds.).
In addition, he was the co-editor and a contributing author of Premarital and Marital
Contracts: A Lawyer's Guide to Drafting and Negotiating Enforceable Marital and
Cohabitation Agreements (1993). His articles on family law issues have appeared in the
Ohio State Law Journal, the University of Connecticut Law Review, and in other legal
periodicals and publications. His articles on the intersection of family law and legal
ethics have been published in the Family Law Quarterly, the Journal of the American
Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and other legal publications.
Prior to joining the faculty in 1972, Professor Becker was an associate attorney at
MacCoy, Evans & Lewis in Philadelphia (1965-68), and Davis & Cox in New York City
(1968-72). He is an active member of the ABA Family Law Section, having served as an At
Large Member of the Section's Council for two terms, and as Chair of the
Section's Long Range Planning, Continuing Legal Education, Custody, and Ethics
Committees. He has also served as Chair of the Section’s Continuing Legal Education
Committee, its Custody Committee, and its Ethics Committee.
