Marquis de Condorcet and von Neumann: Voting Paradox, Economic Growth and Linear Programming
(2021)
  • Lester G Telser
Abstract
von Neumann's original invention of the minimax theorem had the unintended consequences of finding the most conservative way to play a 2-person zero sum game, a model of economic growth and linear programming. Condorcet discovered the voting paradox two centuries earlier that upset standard models of transitive preferences. This led to complications for game theory.
