Abstract
Semi-private goods are financed and owned by a circuit. Its value increases with the homogeneity of its members. This feature is implied by Noether algebra. The value of some semi-private goods increases with the number of its users. Computer software is the leading case. The demand for software is unusual because it is upward sloping unlike the usual downward sloping demand schedule. There are two classes of semi-private goods, unrestricted like software and restricted like country clubs or fashion foods. Conspicuous consumption entered economics more than a century ago. The latter is more valuable the moe highly regarded are those allowed to buy it. It includes elite colleges.
