Abstract

Zero Tolerance policy continues to play a significant role in perpetuating inequity across the nation’s educational system. The enforcement of Zero Tolerance results in the funneling of many minority youth from schools into the juvenile justice and adult correctional systems. Two narratives situated in Florida illustrate the structures, policies, and consequences associated with the enforcement of Zero Tolerance. Finally, the article explores recently adopted legislation in Florida that attempts to reduce school-based arrests that have perpetuated school displacements and incarceration.
