My forty-year career in Library and Information Science (LIS) began as Medical Records Librarian at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) in Karachi, Pakistan, in 1972. After working less than three years in Pakistan, I got an entry-level job in the Cataloging Department at the College of Petroleum & Minerals (CPM), now King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM)Library. In 1977, I got one-year study leave from KFUPM to join the Graduate School of LIS at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York on a Olive Bishop Price Scholarship in International Librarianship, arranged by Dean Nasser Sharify. I completed my courses and came back to Dhahran to resume my work at KFUPM in 1978. After getting promotions to various levels of jobs, I was finally appointed as the Senior Manager, Cataloging Operations Division (COD) in 1993. While my main responsibility was to supervise the COD, I was also entrusted with the administration of Serials , Acquisitions, Arabic cataloging and library systems departments at different times for the duration from one year to 22 years.
