SITE NAME OR SITE NUMBER: B. J. Horton

VESSEL NO.: Burial 4, Pot 3. In Hunt et al. (1996:F-11), Pot 3 is listed as a large brushed vessel, which this vessel is assuredly not.

NON-PLASTICS: grog

VESSEL FORM: Compound bowl with four rim peaks

RIM AND LIP FORM: Everted rim and a rounded, exterior folded lip

CORE COLOR: G (fired in a reducing environment and cooled in the open air)

INTERIOR SURFACE COLOR: dark grayish-brown (10YR 4/2); organic residue on the body

EXTERIOR SURFACE COLOR: brown (10YR 4/3); organic residue on the body

WALL THICKNESS (RIM, BODY, AND BASE IN MM): 4.8 mm, rim; 4.7 mm, body; 7.5 mm, base

INTERIOR SURFACE TREATMENT: burnished

EXTERIOR SURFACE TREATMENT: burnished

HEIGHT (IN CM): 7.5

ORIFICE DIAMETER (IN CM): 13.0

DIAMETER AT BOTTOM OF RIM OR NECK (IN CM): 14.0

DECORATION: The upper rim panel is plain. There are teardrop-shaped excised areas in engraved ovals on the rim peaks (as seen on some Turner Engraved, var. Horton vessels). The lower rim panel has an engraved continuous scroll motif repeated eight times around the vessel.
