About Yen-Ping Kuo

Dr. Yen-Ping Kuo is the Assistant Dean for Curriculum, Assistant Dean for Academic Success, and Professor and Chair of Microbiology and Immunology. Dr. Kuo received her B.S. in Medical Technology from National Taiwan University, an M.S. in Clinical Laboratory Science from Michigan State University, and her PhD in Microbiology and Molecular Biology from The Ohio State University. Her additional training in Clinical Hematology and Molecular Neuroscience further broaden her academic interests and enrich her biomedical science background.

After many years as a productive research scientist, Dr. Kuo found her passion in Osteopathic Medical education. She was one of the founding faculty of A. T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA) SOMA, where she mapped Medical Microbiology contents in Scheme-Based Clinical Presentation Curriculum (CPC) and directed a number of integrated organ system courses. She served as the program chair of SOMA’s International CPC Proceeding and was invited to Taiwan to present CPC workshops for several years.

Inspired by the excellent potentials of CUSOM, Dr. Kuo joined CUSOM in 2013 as the founding Chair of Microbiology and Immunology. She began her leadership roles in Curriculum Committee and Exam Quality Assurance Sub-committee in early 2014, and was promoted to the Assistant Dean for Curriculum in July 2014. Her cumulative curricular experience was recognized as being an invited speaker in QS Subject Focus Summit in Medicine in 2017. In this international conference featuring many prominent medical education leaders from Asia and Europe, Dr. Kuo was the only representative from the US medical schools. Dr. Kuo also has a strong passion in fostering excellent academic skills and confidence in medical students, and CUSOM entrusts her with an additional role as the Assistant Dean for Academic Success in 2018 to co-direct the new CUSOM Academic Center for Excellence (ACE). Excellence and integrity are what Dr. Kuo strives for, and her goals are to help build an effective, successful integrated curriculum, and to inspire future physicians who are committed to life-long learning and achieving their greatest potentials.
