About Yang Xiao

Yang Xiao 蕭陽 is professor of philosophy at Kenyon College, USA. He has been teaching in the Department of Philosophy at Kenyon since 2003.

Xiao's major in college was theoretical physics. He was a visiting student at Wolfson College at Oxford University in 1989. He studied with Richard Bernstein, Agnes Heller, Yirmiyahu Yovel, Reiner Schürmann, Axel Honneth, and Albrecht Wellmer at the New School for Social Research in New York, and with Bernard Williams, Robert Bellah, Donald Davidson, and Frederic Wakeman at UC Berkeley. He was a post-doctoral fellow at the Center of Chinese Studies at Berkeley (1999-2000) and at the FairbankCenter for East Asian Research at Harvard (2002-2003). In 2010-2011 he spent his sabbatical year as a visitor at Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.

Xiao has been the book review editor of Dao: A Journal of Comparative Philosophy since 2005. In 2011 he was elected the vice president of the International Society for Comparative Studies of Chinese and Western Philosophy (ISCWP) for the term 2011-2014. Xiao will be the president for the term 2014-2017.
