Abstract
Portland, Maine, from the late 1800s through the the mid-1900s, was home to three large "box stores" that sold hardware, guns, and fishing tackle: T. B. Davis Arms, Edwards & Walker Company, and J. P. Lovell Arms Company. This article briefly summarizes the history of these three companies and discusses in detail the Rangeley Spinners each store sold. Special attention is also given to the fishing tackle catalogs issued by these three companies.
