Abstract
Fred E. Bailey (1854-1940) was a full-time fly tier and fishing spinner maker from Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. Bailey and his family produced their tackle for more than six decades, 1880s until 1946. This article discusses Bailey's life and fishing lure business. It also documents the four types of high-quality spinners he made and sold: the Bailey, the Rangeley, the Moosehead, and the Hook Gang.

This article was republished, with different illustrations, in the May issue of Discover Maine Magazine (Western Maine Counties, May). To see how to determine the approximate age of Bailey fishing flies and spinners, see Krohn (2019, Winter).
