Abstract
The paper elucidates the puzzle" of /The Prince or Machiavelli's
reasons to write a book that instructs men to become princes, that teaches princes howto preserve their rule,
and that promotes cruel and tyrannical techniques. The author examines the extraordinary historical circumstances, the political ones and the intellectual context in which Machiavelli wrote.
