Abstract
Maceo Crenshaw Dailey, Jr., historianprofessorpublisher, and academic administrator, was born July 4, 1943 in Norfolk, Virginia to Marguerite L. Britton, a Manheimer Pharmacy clerk, and Maceo C. Dailey, Sr., a Bethlehem Sparrows Point Shipyard steel worker.  Dailey was the oldest of eight children. At six, his family moved to Baltimore, Maryland where elementary public school teacher Mary Carter Smith introduced him to African cultures based on her trips to the continent.  He played basketball at Forest Park High, receiving first team All-Maryland Scholastic Association honors.
