About Wayan P Ariati PhD

Ni Wayan Pasek Ariati is a lecturer and Academic Director of the SIT Study Abroad Indonesia: Arts, Religion and Social Change based in Bali. She received her PhD degree from Charles Darwin University in Australia. Her dissertation was about the Demonization of image of Women through Myth and black Political Propaganda. She has done research about the development of the Indic goddess Durga, a beautiful warrior goddess that has been perceived as a demonic goddess in Java and Bali after in power for about three centuries. Her last chapter was about the parallel fate between the warrior goddess and the progressive women’s movement, Gerwani. She received Fulbright grant to teach Indonesian language for the SEASSI (South East Asian Studies Summer Institute) held in Arizona State University, USA. She has presented papers on various topics in Singapore, India, Germany, Australia, Africa, USA and Indonesia.
