About W. Anthony Lee

W. Anthony Lee, MD, FACS is a Board Certified Vascular Surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Princeton University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and his medical degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1992. Dr. Lee went on to complete a residency in General Surgery at University of Michigan and a Fellowship in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Stanford University.
In 2000, he started on the faculty of University of Florida College of Medicine Division of Vascular Surgery, where he developed a nationally recognized endovascular program in minimally-invasive treatment of complex aortic aneurysms. Dr. Lee joined the medical staff of Boca Raton Regional Hospital in 2010, where he currently serves as the Chief of Vascular Surgery, as well as a Clinical Professor of Surgery at Florida Atlantic University College of Medicine in Boca Raton, Florida. He has been the Past President of the Florida Vascular Society and is a Distinguished Member of the Society for Vascular Surgery. He has served on the Editorial Board of several prominent, peer-reviewed scientific journals. He has authored over 30 book chapters, nearly 130 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 350 presentations at national and international meetings, and served as the principal investigator in over 25 medical device clinical trials.
His practice encompasses endovascular and open surgical treatments of the entire spectrum of vascular diseases, with a focus towards complex thoracic and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms and dissections. His clinical practice is complemented by a robust clinical research program with a staff of two full-time research coordinators and an annual budget of $150,000 that is completely funded by the Aortic Research Consortium and private philanthropy.
The research program, which has been ongoing continuously for over 10 years, is based on Dr. Lee’s Physician-IDE (FDA Investigational Device Exemption) whose aim is to study the safety and efficacy of endovascular repair of thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms using a unique, investigational custom-made aortic stent graft. This novel, state-of-the-art, minimally-invasive treatment of one of the leading “silent-killers” in cardiovascular disease is only available through an FDA-approved IDE clinical trial. Through Dr. Lee’s Physician-IDE, Boca Raton Regional Hospital is one of only 10 sites in the entire US to offer this treatment. His Complex Aortic Program covers a large catchment area drawing referrals from the entire southern half of the state—stretching from the Gulf to the Atlantic coasts and from Orlando to Miami metropolitan areas.
