AbstractYOUTH represent the most vibrant section of the society. They play a pivotal role in socio-economic changes and development of the society. A nation can progress only when the energy of youth is channelised into constructive work. It is imperative that youth are given a major role in the process of development. In India, the youth forms nearly one-third of the total population i.e. out of 1.1 billion approximately 350 million are the youth. With the objective of fulfilling the aspirations of this group and empowering them as the active and constructive agents of positive change, National Service Scheme, popularly known as NSS, was launched in Gandhiji's Birth Centenary Year 1969 in 37 universities involving 40,000 students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. As part of state policy and also on the same tradition and need, the Gujarat University Central Consumers' Cooperative Stores Limited was established in the year 1969 at Ahmedabad, Gujarat State of India. This case study discusses story of a university consumer cooperative in India.
